Pidgin – A Lightweight and Powerful Alternative to Yahoo Messenger
The Yahoo Messenger (YM) chat software has become increasingly bloated and overloaded with unnecessary features, while lacking essential functionality. Pidgin, formerly known as Gaim, is a worthy replacement for YM in daily work, or simply a refreshing alternative to Yahoo Messenger’s boring interface.
Pidgin 2.14.1 is a chat application that allows you to log in to multiple accounts across multiple messaging networks at the same time. This means you can chat with friends on MSN, talk to others on Google Talk, and join Yahoo chat rooms simultaneously.
Pidgin is compatible with a wide range of instant messaging networks, including AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber/XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, MXit, MySpaceIM, and Zephyr. Its capabilities can be further extended through plugins.
Pidgin supports many features offered by these messaging networks, such as file transfers, message sending, buddy icons, custom emoticons, and typing notifications. Additional plugins can expand Pidgin’s functionality beyond its standard features. Pidgin integrates with the system tray on Windows, GNOME 2, KDE 3, and KDE 4.
Pidgin is under continuous development. New versions are often released thanks to user contributions, including bug reports and patches.
Pidgin is completely free and contains no advertisements. Its entire codebase is open source and licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). This means you can access the source code, modify it to suit your needs, and share your improvements so others can benefit.

Language Support
Pidgin has been translated into many different languages thanks to contributions from volunteer translators. Notably, Pidgin is also available in Vietnamese.
